Music by Elle Anderson

I have always been fond of music and going out to see plays from a young age. My favorite genre of music is probably oldies because some of the songs written back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s are more sophisticated than some of the songs today, in the sense that they don’t talk about drugs, girls with fat a**es, or partying. I also like some of today’s artists, such as Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga just to name a few. However, I must say that I do not care much for any rap music or dupstep, or Justin Bieber. As far as oldies are concerned, some of my favorite oldies artists and bands are the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Eagles, the Doors, and Kool and the Gang. Ever since I was in the third grade, I used to love listening to the Eagles. My favorite songs by this band were “Take it Easy” and “Desperado”. I also like some show tunes. Some of my favorite musicals/musical movies include “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Singing in the Rain”, “The Sound of Music”, “West Side Story” and “Grease”. While I don’t care much for being in a drama production, I find musicals really entertaining.

In elementary school, my classes would often have small plays towards the end of the year. My most memorable one being a junior performance of “Cats” when I was in preschool, where I played Mr. Mistofelles. It wasn’t really a full production of the musical, but just the kids dressed up in costume performing different songs from “Cats”. I also remember there being a drama production at my elementary school where kids performed in plays during school assemblies. Same thing in middle school. I even took choir for a year in the sixth grade. There was a max of 40 students in my choir class. During the winter and spring, we would have two concerts per season. In the winter concert, we would perform Winter-related songs and some Christmas carols. During our Spring Concert, we sang some songs that related to spring, including some well known oldies favorites, like songs by the Beatles.

I enjoy listening to music while I get my homework done. Listening to music helps me to get my work done faster and it makes doing homework more fun. I also like to listen to music on my iPhone in the car, either on Pandora or iHeart Radio.
